Notification process ‘makes little impact’

~Transport for London~'s process for notifying works has made ‘no difference’ to most London boroughs’ works programmes, while many thought it was a time-consuming distraction.

A survey into the six-month-old Traffic Management Act system requiring boroughs to notify TfL in advance of any works which could impact on the capital’s newly-defined ‘strategic network’ found that 320 notifications were submitted between August and February. Only 1% were objected to by TfL and a further 1% disputed because of insufficient information, while 14% were withdrawn.

The ~Association of London Government~ survey found 13 boroughs were not happy with the effort required on the notifications but 12 were. TfL had promised a ‘light touch’ approach following resentment to the new obligation (Surveyor, 16 June 2005).
