Four local authorities in the Southwest have joined together to challenge their residents to throw away as little waste as possible.
Zero Waste Challenge Week, the biggest yet, will run from Monday 29 September. It is being promoted by
Bath & North East Somerset,
Bristol,
North Somerset and
South Gloucestershire councils.
People who have previously taken part in the challenge threw away one-quarter of what they normally would, helping reduce the amount sent to landfill as well as saving resources and energy.
The four authorities are organising a range of events, including activities with schools and community groups, displays, talks and roadshows.
Local authorities across the country have shown an interest in the Zero Waste Challenge Week with inquiries from as far away as Northern Ireland and Scotland, with many councils running their own zero waste challenge weeks.
