A national tax on landowners could scupper funding for an £80M road project north of Norwich, according to the
county council. Norfolk’s cabinet member for transport and planning, Cllr
~Adrian Gunson~ said the proposed planning gain supplement could deprive the authority of developer contributions for the controversial Northern Distributor Road. Past experience suggested Norfolk would lose out if the tax was collected centrally and redistributed, he told the local press. A ‘three-quarter’ version of the scheme was backed by the council, and won regional priority status, following trenchant opposition to a new dual carriageway in the sensitive Wensum Valley (Surveyor, 22 September 2005).
