No time to waste for funds

Plymouth City Council is applying to the Government for major funding to build waste-treatment facilities to serve the city until 2030.

The council plans to submit an ‘expression of interest’ for private-finance initiative funding (PFI) from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs at the end of the month.

Cabinet member for streetscene and environmental regulation, Cllr Michael Leaves, said: ‘This is an important piece of work as we could get a significant percentage of the building costs under PFI credit system.

‘We are also looking at possible partners in this venture, which could cost anything from £60M to £110M.’
