No signs of a deterrent

Doncaster MBC is replacing stolen roads signs with new ones made from glass-reinforced plastic, which have no scrap metal value.

The move was prompted by a recent increase in thefts, most of which are of signs warning of sharp bends, junctions and level crossings.

But mayor Martin Winter said the problem still existed, ‘partly because the thieves do not realise there is no scrap value in these signs’.
