No room for on-street parking

Plans to transform the heart of Warminster by removing on-street parking and widening pavements have moved one step closer.
Traffic regulations for the £600,000 project, backed by Wiltshire County Council, have been passed by Warminster Town Council last week.
By approving the regulations, relating to scrapping on-street parking bays and moving a zebra crossing, the authority reaffirms its decision, taken last year, to back the county scheme.
The project will involve a zebra crossing in High Street being moved around 30m in the direction of Market Place, a taxi rank in The Close turned into on-street parking, a bus shelter in Market Place replaced and extended, on-street parking in Market Place removed and footways in High Street and Market Place extended. It will also see the town given a friendlier look, with extra seating, planted areas, the replacement of pedestrian guard rails, and areas for cycle parking using Sheffield-type stands.
The town’s businesses and some of Warminster’s 20,000 residents have voiced concerns over the scheme, which they say will be detrimental to business because of a lack of parking for customers and delivery vehicles.
