No dash to 20mph zones

Norwich City Council is hoping to introduce a 20mph speed limit across all residential streets in the city, but faces opposition from the county council.

The city council is carrying out a feasibility study into imposing this limit, after members voted unanimously to support the measure last year. However, Norfolk County Council, which shares joint responsibility for highways with Norwich, has indicated it would stand in the way of the proposal.

A spokesperson for Norfolk said the feasibility study would have to be particularly convincing because the county council did not believe in a blanket roll out of 20mph residential zones.
