Newcastle Gallups into third place in quality of life league

People in Newcastle rate their quality of life among the very best in Europe, according to new research.

An Urban audit perception survey by Gallup Hungary has ranked Newcastle as third in the top cities in Europe when residents were asked their satisfaction with a range of issues and services.

The survey was carried out last November on behalf of the European Commission and also also asked residents’ views in Belfast, Cardiff, Glasgow, London and Manchester. Groningen in the Netherlands came first, followed by the Danish city of Aalborg and Newcastle third, with an overall satisfaction rating of 97%.

In each of 75 cities assessed across Europe, 500 residents were contacted randomly and asked about their levels of satisfaction in their home city. Overall, 97% of Newcastle residents said they were satisfied to live in the city, with a 78% satisfaction rate with public transport, and a 78% satisfaction rate for parks and open spaces.
