New report commissioned on runway deadlock

The Independent Transport Commission (ITC) has appointed former Bank of England economist, Dr Rebecca Driver, to analyse the possible fall out from ministers refusing to act upon the Airports Commission's recommendations.

The Commission was set up to examine the need for additional runway capacity in the UK. Last year it reported back that additional capacity was needed and produced a shortlist of three preferred options, two at Heathrow and one at Gatwick

Using Airports Commission data, the ITC-commissioned report will be published w/c 22 June 2015.

The analysis will build upon previous ITC reports including: "Flying into the Future", May 2013, "The optimal size of a UK hub airport", February 2014, "Surface Connectivity: assessing the merits of the Airports", October 2014 and "Delivering improved airport capacity: The cost and impact of the Airports Commission’s short-listed options", March 2015.

The Airports Commission is due to publish its final report in summer 2015.
