New low for polluters

The cabinets of Richmond and Hackney London borough councils have voted to implement parking proposals to favour low-emission vehicles.
Richmond first mooted the proposals in October 2006, and results of a consultation in January revealed public approval for the scheme. On Monday, the cabinet cleared the final hurdle to its implementation within the next few months. Hackney has now joined London’s Camden and Lambeth boroughs in ‘green lighting’ similar measures.
