Neighbours to get advice about JWAs

Guidance has been published to accompany new regulations enabling neighbouring local authorities to form a joint waste authority (JWA)partnership.

The guidance specifies what should be included in a JWA proposal, and the information that must accompany a proposal.

JWAs are aimed at enabling local authorities to save money and deliver efficient and high-quality services for residents. It is up to local authorities to decide whether to make a proposal for a JWA, and to determine what services – collection, disposal and/or street cleansing – it would deliver.

The power to create JWAs was introduced in the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007, in response to requests from local authorities.
