Neath Port Talbot builds foot crossing, step by step

Two giant cranes lifted Port Talbot’s new landmark footbridge in place last weekend.
The footbridge was brought down by road from Briton Fabricators near Nottingham in 10 separate wagons.
The huge steel arch, made up of three sections, was first to go up, followed by four desk sections which were fitted below the arch on stainless hangers to form a suspended walkway.
Funded by a European grant and designed by Neath Port Talbot Council’s engineering team, the footbridge reflects both the historic beach hill of its location and the industrial heritage of the area.
The work is part of the £110M Peripheral Distributor Road, which is expected to transform the flow of traffic in the area.
