Motorists put in the picture about bus-only areas

Oxfordshire County Council has given the go ahead for cameras to be used to stop people abusing bus-only areas in the city centre.
Bus gate access restriction points were introduced to a number of locations in 1999, but national legislation only recently made it possible for them to be enforced with the use of cameras.
This week, the council decided in the face of rising abuse of the restrictions to make use of new enforcement legislation and use cameras.
The bus gates are located on the High Street at University College, Castle Street at its junction with Norfolk Street, George Street east of Gloucester Street and Magdalen Street East.
The bus gates enabled the creation of a bus-priority route, which helped deliver the pedestrianisation of Cornmarket Street. The council aims to have the cameras in operation by February.
David Robertson, cabinet member for transport, said: ‘Officers have been working on making enforcement possible and I am pleased to give the go ahead. ‘We need this to cut abuse and make sure bus-only areas can 100% serve the purpose they were intended for.’
