Monitoring traffic signals start of Kilburn demolition job

The reconstruction of a road-over-rail bridge in north London has reached a milestone this week.
Camden council has closed part of the major arterial route of the A5 into London ahead of the May bank holiday demolition of the 158-year-old cast iron Kilburn High Road bridge. Consultant Colin Buchanan and Partners, hired to help Camden meet its network management duty requirements for the £7.3M project, was monitoring the impact on traffic flows and had identified where signal timings needed changing or additional signs were needed. Project manager Gana Natkunan said: ‘We’re making constant changes to keep the delays to an acceptable level – with a target to add no more than 10 minutes to the journeys of eight bus routes.’
Camden is also highlighting how local shops are still trading. Takings were down 5% at Marks & Spencer after three months of one-lane closures.
