Moles’ holes repair service fills needs

Stockport Council has repaired 1,700 potholes since relaunching its ‘Pothole moles’ campaign in September 2008. The specialist road repairs hit-squad was initially set up two years ago, to make pothole repairs more efficient. The moles target work in each neighbourhood, and rely strongly on requests from residents to repair certain areas.

The council has also set up a ‘Find and fix’ team which focuses on repairing streetlights. It has completed more than 2,000 repairs to faulty lights since September, assisting in reducing the average repair time from seven days to less than four. The team travels the lighting network to find faults and provide an immediate fix to problems.

Cllr David White, executive member for transport, said: ‘Initiatives such as these are really beneficial as they free up the regular service to concentrate work on busier routes used in the borough.’
