Minister urged to back A11 project

Norfolk County Council leader, Daniel Cox, has urged the DfT, to approve the £135M dualling of the A11 between Barton Mills Fiveways and Thetford before she steps down from the Cabinet.

Norfolk and Suffolk county councils have been campaigning for the nine-mile road widening, which would make the whole A11 dual carriageway, and hope it will start by the end of 2010. Kelly had previously indicated that such a date could be possible.

‘I would urge you to take the decision people have been hoping for,’ Cox said in his letter. The scheme has also become one of the region’s highest transport priorities. ‘We have been pressing the Department for Transport to maximise any funding flexibility to bring forward the delivery date of the scheme,’ said East of England Regional Assembly chairman, John Reynolds.
