Mendip motorists given the red card for parking offences

Mendip motorists are being shown the red card for parking irresponsibly in the district.

The district council is joining forces with the police to issue parking warning cars to motorists who have parked without due consideration to other drivers.

The cards will be placed on windscreens by PCSOs as a polite reminder to motorists to think before they park. The scheme is being targeted near schools in the district, and where local police say there are particular problems with irresponsible parking.

The red cards read: ‘Attention, you have parked without consideration for others, please don’t in the future.

‘This is not a parking fine, but parking on pavements or near school entrances can cause great inconvenience and danger to parents and children trying to cross the road.’

A spokesman said a decision is still to be made on who would take control of parking enforcement under the Traffic Management Act, but for the time being, the current arrangements would continue.
