Measuring up to SCANNER

Guidance has been issued on SCANNER surveys of local authority roads for 2006/07. As last year, authorities are required to report the proportion of their networks in poor overall condition and ‘likely to require planned maintenance soon’. Only this ‘red’ category needs to be reported as a best value indicator. For principal roads, valid data is required for at least 90% of the total length. Authorities which had sufficient TTS coverage of at least half their network in 2004/05 may ‘exceptionally’ resurvey the other half. For other routes, valid SCANNER-accredited survey data is required for 90% of B-class roads and 45% of C-roads.
