Making tracks with coastal path in run-up to Olympic events

The first stretch of the new coastal path around England will be opened at Weymouth Bay in time for the 2012 Olympic sailing events, the environment secretary, Hilary Benn, has confirmed.

The creation of an all-England coastal path will be made possible under the Marine and Coastal Access Bill, currently going through Parliament, with Royal Assent aimed for the autumn.

Natural England will be consulting from next year on how the path will be delivered. It is now planned for a section about 20kms long to be opened by July 2012.
