Major move for city’s minors

Oxford could become the next English city to see 20mph speed limits introduced on all its minor roads.

An Oxfordshire County Council report recommends that 20mph limits are introduced in 2009 on all minor roads, and some sections of A roads and the B road network where there are busy shopping areas.

All unnumbered through-roads, except where they are part of heavily-used bus routes, are also included in the proposals.

Cllr Ian Hudspeth, Oxfordshire’s cabinet member for transport, said: ‘People should not be getting carried away thinking that this is the finished product. We will be consulting.’ The proposals will be put towards cabinet at the end of the week.
