‘Magnificent’ investment brings a renaissance to Chester

Work is set to being on Chester’s£280M Northgate Development project, which includes a new bus station with safe access to the shops.
The project involves regeneration of run-down areas around Northgate and Gorse Stacks, and is part of a series of schemes under the Chester Renaissance banner. It depends on the demolition of existing council offices behind the Town Hall (pictured). The project also includes up to 60 new shops and retail outlets, a modern, covered market, a 652-space multi-storey car park, 124 flats, and a ‘fresh looking’ town square.
The council says the development will blend in with its surroundings and preserve local archaeology and history. Cllr Paul Roberts, Chester City Council’s deputy leader, said: ‘These schemes at Northgate and across the city are part of the magnificent investment and reshaping going on all around us.’
