MSP calls for A9 upgrade

Mid-Scotland & Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has called on the Scottish Government to commit to dualling the entire A9 from Perth to Inverness, after obtaining accident figures in a parliamentary answer.

Fraser said the A9 had the highest accident record of any Scottish road in 2003, 2004 and 2006, with 1,085 accidents between 2002 and 2006.

‘I believe that if a train line in Scotland witnessed the same number of deaths as the A9 does, then something would be done to reduce the fatality rate,’ he said. ‘However, the Scottish Government is still dragging its feet in plans to dual the road in its entirety from Perth to Inverness.’
