MPs to probe waste strategy

The House of Commons select committee on environment, food and rural affairs is to hold an inquiry into the Waste Strategy for England, which was published in May.

MPs will examine government plans for waste reduction and local control of waste management, together with composting, packaging and the role of financial incentives to encourage recycling by householders.

The committee also says it will examine the adequacy of the existing infrastructure, energy-from-waste schemes and the potential for proposals in the waste strategy to reduce methane emissions from landfill. The deadline for submission to the inquiry is 26 October.
