Lower fees for low emitters

 
Newcastle City Council is set to slash residential parking permits for low-emission vehicles.

The council aims to target high-emission vehicles as part of a wider plan to improve air quality and reduce car usage. Council leader, John Shipley, said the parking scheme would mainly affect band A – or the least-polluting – vehicles.

He said a similar proposal for city centre parking could be rolled out as part of Tyne and Wear’s TIF bid, which is expected to be submitted to the Government next year
