Longer shelf life for voles

A crossing is being provided for water voles as part of a culvert-strengthening scheme in South Tyneside.
A 25m-long shelf will allow the rare mammals to scamper under a road in East Boldon, reducing the isolation of vole communities. The River Don is one of their last remaining habitats.
