London borough just got Smarter

The London Borough of Richmond has launched a £4.2M sustainable travel programme in partnership with Transport for London.

Richmond is the second London borough to introduce a Smarter Travel programme, with Sutton’s project now in its third and final year.

The scheme aims to encourage greater use of sustainable travel options, such as walking, cycling or using public transport.

The programme will deliver 450 new cycle parking spaces, two new cycle routes, new car club bays, improved signage and mapping for pedestrians, and the roll out of Walk on Wednesday to all primary schools in the borough – an incentive scheme which encourages children to walk to school once a week. Travel plans will also be developed for residents, schools and businesses.
