London Transport Museum to host highways joint working conference

Highways Delivery 2016 – Joint working for local and national road networks explained, 23 June, London Transport Museum, Covent Garden.

Highways England and Transport for Greater Manchester have teamed up to give an insight into their new joint working agreement covering a long-term vision for motorways and key roads across the city region.

Andy Everest, highways director of Transport for Greater Manchester, will be in attendance to discuss the partnership, which forms potential model for the new combined authorities created under the recent wave of devolution deals.

Chaired by Mike D’Alton, head of strategic growth for infrastructure, WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff, the conference will feature a range of talks regarding new developments in the sector including:

- Department for Transport’s Harry Cox on the new highways maintenance capital funding self-assessment for local authorities.

- David O’Neil, head of supply chain strategy and supplier development, Highways England, on the government-owned company's five-year delivery plan and new direct contracting model.

- David Quarmby and Phil Carey, on their vision of a newly-defined 8,000 mile Major Road Network combining the Strategic Road Network with key local authority roads.

The conference is delivered by the Road Safety Markings Association under its National Highway Academy banner, and is part of a series of events on “Making the Network Work”.
