Lloyds’ banks bolstered with £3M programme to protect Gorge

Ironbridge Gorge is to benefit from an extra £3M of funding to help prevent it from collapse.

Telford & Wrekin Council already has a £3M programme under way at the area known locally as The Lloyds, and is campaigning, alongside Telford MP, David Wright, for extra government funding.

An extra £1.5M grant has already been committed by the Government Office for the West Midlands, which TWC hopes to match either with other grants or from the council itself.

The money will be spent on ongoing repairs, which could include the building of a temporary road after a local road closure in April due to land movement. It is estimated the total cost of repairs to the national heritage site will be around £86M.
