Newcastle City Council’s ruling Lib Dem party have signed up to the Living Streets ‘local manifesto’ for the May elections.
As a first step, the council’s executive will discuss the introduction of a blanket 20mph limit on community streets next week – a key pledge of the manifesto. The document also commits the administration to reducing pavement trip-hazards by half within three years, to enable local people to close their streets for street parties, and to create a dedicated budget for home zones.
