Legible approach aims to spell out advantages of walking in London

Londoners are being canvassed to help create a new pedestrian signage system for the capital to encourage more people to walk for short journeys.
Signs for walking in central London cause such confusion that almost half of pedestrians use the Tube map to navigate their way around the capital, a new study reveals. Many people also end up travelling by car, bus or Tube for a journey which takes 10 minutes on foot.
To tackle the problem, a new exhibition called Legible London is consulting Londoners to help develop a plan and business case for a comprehensive new pedestrian signage system.
Visitors to the exhibition and to Legible London’s website are being asked to draw their own maps, using interactive equipment, on how they think central London is laid out. The exhibition will run for four months and is being held at New London Architecture in central London.
