Leeds says thanks a million as free bus service celebrates milestone

Leeds city centre’s free bus service has carried more than one million passengers in its first year of service.
Metro’s FreeCityBus, which celebrated its first anniversary on Tuesday, now represents 1% of all bus journeys in West Yorkshire, according to Cllr Stanley King, the transport group’s chairman.
He explained: ‘As some of these passengers would previously have used a car for all or part of their journey, this means Leeds FreeCityBus is also helping reduce congestion and the related pollution so the city and its surrounding region can continue to thrive.’ A FreeTownBus service was introduced in Huddersfield in November, and Metro plans to launch a FreeCityBus for Wakefield this spring.
