Leader’s shame over claims

The leader of Edinburgh City Council has been forced to apologise after ‘naming and shaming’ the wrong company as the biggest culprit for digging up the capital’s roads.

Donald Anderson blamed Scottish Gas Networks, formerly Transco, for failing to adequately repair roads on 53% occasions, between 2005 and 2006, when it actually failed on 17% of works. He also said BT and Scottish Power Systems had slightly better records than was the case.
