The governance arrangements of major capital projects have been reviewed by Oxford councils after a public realm project doubled in cost.
The authorities have responded to an independent review of the three-year saga of the Cornmarket resurfacing scheme which overran by £1.6M-£2.4M (Surveyor, 17 February).
Lead officers are to be appointed to specific projects under the authorities’ ambitious plan to redevelop the West End of Oxford while moving the city’s train station with a single project co-ordinator to oversee them all.
Oxford hire has also carried out structured risk assessments of its biggest transport projects and will develop framework contracts for large schemes from next year.
