Two bidders have been selected to submit final offers for the largest waste-management contract in Europe Greater Manchester’s waste disposal £4bn solution has moved one step closer with the selection of SITA UK, Royal Bank of Scotland and Peel Holdings; and a joint venture of Viridor Waste Management and John Laing.  A third, Shanks Waste Solutions/Babock & Brown, will be held in reserve. Sites developed would be returned to the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority at the end of the 25-year contract’s life. Services should start in 2007, according to the GMWDA.
