Knowledge Hub marks 'new dawn' for local transport investment

A new Transport Knowledge Hub promises to equip Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs), councils and others with the tools and expertise to make 'cost-effective and impactful' decisions on local transport.

The free online tool offers best practice guidance relating to the selection, development and delivery of transport investments, as well case studies of successful projects.

The Hub is funded jointly by Greener Journeys and the Department for Transport and hosted through the Local Partnerships website.

It functions as an online community and will provide a platform for sharing advice, helping local decision makers to find the evidence they need to make important decisions on capital spending.

Claire Haigh, chief executive of Greener Journeys, said: ‘The launch of the Transport Knowledge Hub marks a new dawn for investment in local transport projects. The scale of issues facing our transport networks is vast.

‘From minimising congestion to improving air quality, quality local transport policy has never been more essential. The Hub is a timely development designed to encourage investments which will drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth.'

Transport minister Andrew Jones said: ‘The government has supported this with investment as we support local decision makers creating the transport schemes to make a difference in their areas.’

The scheme’s promoters said that, with an estimated underspend of £85m by LEPs on Local Growth Fund projects in 2015-16, the Hub will play a vital role in ensuring LEPs have access to the information they need.

It will also have a news and community section featuring a weekly news update.
