Kent motorists finally get the message about congestion

Kent Highway Services has installed six variable-messaging signs on roads entering Maidstone in a bid to tackle town centre congestion.

The signs are directly linked to the Kent traffic management centre, which opened last November. As drivers approach each roadside location, they get advance information about accidents, delays and traffic flows.

KCC leader, Paul Carter, said: ‘These digital message signs are another weapon in our armoury to tackle congestion in Maidstone. We want to make travel around the town more pleasant and speedier for all road-users.’ Later this year, the signs will also be able to show vehicle journey times on the routes.
