Ken’s security pledge as overground goes Underground

London Underground will take control of 11 stations currently managed by Silverlink Metro when the North London Railway transfers to Transport for London in November 2007.
The mayor has pledged to improve station safety and security by adding staffing levels and installing better lighting, CCTV and help points at the stations. The overland Silverlink Metro connects a swathe of suburban London but is considered by many to be neglected and unreliable.
Stations to come under LU control are Queen’s Park to Harrow & Wealdstone on the Bakerloo Line, excluding Willesden Junction; Kew Gardens and Gunnersbury on the District line; and the Silverlink platforms at Blackhorse, Highbury and Islington and West Brompton.
Ken Livingstone said: ‘Public sector control of these stations will mean real improvements – including putting staff back into stations.’
