Junction upgrade will bring unity to streets of Canning Town

Planning approval has been given for a major infrastructure project in London’s Canning Town that will see realignment of the A13 junction which currently splits the town centre.

The decision by the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (LTGDC) is a milestone in the London Borough of Newham’s Canning Town and Custom House regeneration programme.

The road currently splits the town centre in two, and the project will provide and enhance pedestrian and cycle-only routes under the A13.

Newham council is working in partnership with LTGDC to create a vibrant, accessible and safe town centre, with a mix of modern and independent shops, attractive public spaces, quality homes and successful businesses.

The project successfully secured an £18M funding package from community infrastructure funds (CIF).

Work is set to begin on construction of the signalised junction to replace the existing Canning Town roundabout in 2010.
