Joint venture wins £500M deal for Northants roads

Northamptonshire County Council has announced MGWSP as preferred bidder for its £500M highways services contract.

The authority will now be working with the company – a joint venture between May Gurney and the WSP Group – on details of the contract, which will start in March, and replace the current agreement with Atkins.

Cabinet member for roads and transport, Bob Seery, said: ‘This new contract allows the council to build on the best practices in service delivery established under the current arrangements, and has been developed through a thorough evaluation of all bidders.

At the end of this, MGWSP was identified as the best bidder, based on the needs of the council and for the county’s roads going forward.’ The council will continue to work with Atkins during the final months of the existing contract. It is hoped when final agreement is reached with MGWSP, the majority of those people working for Atkins in the county will transfer to its payroll.
