Joint approach to target city’s graffiti hotspots

Birmingham City Council’s transportation and street services overview and scrutiny committee has launched a joint inquiry with the local services and community safety overview and scrutiny committee into how to tackle local graffiti.

Cllr Martin Mullaney, chairman of the transportation scrutiny committee, said: ‘There are known hotspots in our city which are repeatedly subject to graffiti, and our review will consider what preventative measures can be taken.’

‘We have heard of graffiti schemes in other areas which appear to have worked well. Some towns have set up designated graffiti-managed sites. ‘I would like to explore whether young people have found these a success, and whether they have led to an overall reduction in nuisance graffiti.’ It is hoped the findings of the review will be presented early next year.
