Joint Manchester waste plan mooted

Local authorities in Greater Manchester are seeking residents’ and businesses’ views on preferred approaches and sites for waste facilities.

The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) is holding a consultation as it produces a joint waste development plan to detail policies for managing waste and identifying potential sites for such facilities.

Cllr Derek Antrobus, chair of the committee charged with preparing the plan, said he aimed to ensure planning authorities had policies in place to cope with future waste in the ‘greenest, safest and cleanest way’ possible. ‘The plan places more emphasis on reduction, re-use, recycling and recovery, although there will be some residual waste remaining.’

The consultation will end on 8 January.
