A major employer in Trafford says jobs are at stake after being warned of new parking restrictions around the plant it has occupied since 1959.
Alan Cartwright, chairman of a lorry trailer building company of the same name, which employs 500 people, has sent a copy of his objection to additional waiting, loading and parking restrictions around his factory in Altrincham to the prime minister, Gordon Brown, and Conservative leader, David Cameron.
The company, which is booming, despite the credit crunch, already parks its own fleet seven miles away, and Mr Cartwright’s letter to the council says that ‘if the proposed policies are forced through, we will be forced to reduce our employment numbers within our factory’.
John Lamb, Trafford’s director of environment strategy, said: ‘We take feedback from local people and businesses on our proposals seriously and will be carefully considering Cartwright’s objections to see if the restrictions can be amended.’
