It’s a clean fight as parties prepare for battle

The three main parties contesting next month’s local elections have clashed over which councils have delivered on clean streets and local transport.
The Conservatives’s local election manifesto Vote blue go green claims that Conservative-controlled councils deliver cleaner streets, pointing to the fact that 17% fell below the ‘B standard’ for cleanliness on the best value performance indicator 199, compared with 22% for Labour councils.
The Labour party’s top three priorities are lower council tax, fighting anti-social behaviour and education. But it also highlighted the Labour Government’s doubling of investment in local transport.
The Lib Dems manifesto Safer greener fairer says the party can be trusted to ‘fight for and improve our environment’, and promises new low-emission zones in Lib Dem-controlled areas.
