It’s Tyne to make a difference as village project meets public demand

£1.6M ‘recycling village’, which enables residents of South Tyneside to recycle more waste, was officially opened by the borough mayor, Councillor Ed Malcolm, last week.
The purpose-built facility at Middlefields in Tyne Dock has been set up in response to calls from the public, who wanted better facilities to recycle more and different materials, such as plastics, cardboard, car tyres and oil.
The village offers 20 recycling containers, an education centre and a community warehouse, for people to allow discarded goods that still work to be reused, rather than being wasted.
During the opening ceremony, Cllr Malcolm urged the public to get behind the ‘Do your bit… more’ concept, to make the borough a cleaner place.
