Issuing fines from single source ‘could bring huge savings’

London boroughs could slash their costs of issuing parking tickets by up to half by jointly procuring the 3M fixed penalties issued across the capital annually from a single supplier.
Under a proposed framework deal, the current 204 different FPN templates for parking – six in each London borough plus Transport for London’s – would be replaced by just five. The contract would entail the printing and posting of all enforcement notices.
Currently, only five central London boroughs and TfL are in the ‘partnership for parking’ – which has already involved the joint purchasing of 33 new pay-and-display machines (Surveyor, 29 June) – but most were interested, according to a spokesman for the regional centres of excellence in procurement.
