Interchange arrival will drive Rochdale’s regeneration

Flood defence walls by the River Roch are set to be improved, in preparation for a new public transport interchange in Rochdale.

The multimillion-pound interchange has received an £800,000 boost from Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority, with the money going towards improving the flood-defence walls and treating contaminated land earmarked for the development.

The £11.5M interchange will replace the existing bus station (pictured right) in the town centre. Cllr Allen Brett, vice chair of GMPTA, said: ‘Rochdale Transport Interchange will be a massive boost to the regeneration of the town centre. ‘Its proposed location also complements our plans to bring Metrolink to the heart of Rochdale town centre, as we will be able to add a tram stop to the interchange in the future.’
