Iconic canal crossing will put Gloucester Way out in front

Construction has started on a spectacular new bridge that will join up major canalside regeneration areas in Gloucester.
The £6m St Ann Way bridge link is scheduled to open in spring next year. The project has been designed, procured and managed by English Partnerships, supported by the South West Regional Development Agency. Built from steel and white concrete, the bridge’s futuristic design is expected to become an iconic structure in its own right. I
t will span the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal with a roadway deck 6m above water level, enabling it to stay open to traffic most of the time Greg Morgan, project manager at English Partnerships, said: ‘Completion of the St Ann Way link will not only generate much-needed infrastructure improvements, but also provide a new and distinctive landmark for Gloucester and spearhead regeneration of the whole city.’
