Highways: Perthshire motorists on a better footing after landslip repairs

A Perthshire road ravaged by rainstorms in August 2004 has finally reopened. The old A9 at Dunkeld was damaged by landslips at seven locations and a bridge at the northern end of the route was partly washed away. Although the route mainly serves tourists, it also provides relief when there are problems on the new A9 and diverts lorries from two villages. Perth and Kinross Council funded the £435,000 remedial works, including a replacement bridge, with support from the Scottish Executive’s Bellwin contingency scheme and contributions from utilities. Council engineers and consultant Mouchel Parkman designed the works, which were carried out by contractors George Leslie and Tayside Contracts.
