Highways: Optima mounts operation to keep Midlands on the go

New vehicle-mounted variable-message signs are helping keep traffic moving after an incident in the Midlands.
According to Optima, which runs the contract from the Highways Agency, this will be the first time the vehicles have been used on the motorway network. The vehicles have retractable mounted signs which can be used to warn motorists of potential dangers ahead.
Simon Philips, Optima’s deputy operations manager said: ‘This will help make the network safer and reduce congestion as soon as an incident has occurred.’ The firm will be deploying the vehicles across Warwickshire, Leicester and Staffordshire.
