Highways England has announced that 18 companies have won a place on a £434m contractual framework, covering work in Cumbria, North Lancashire, and the North East.
However the Government-owned company said a further lot - Lot 7, covering Landscape and Ecology - has not been awarded yet.
The new style Construction Works Framework supports Highways England's Asset Delivery contracts, which allows Highways England to directly manage routine maintenance and the delivery of capital renewal and improvement schemes - as part of plans to bring more skills and capacity back in-house.
The framework covers 10 different specialisms, is split into 15 separate lots and will run for four years, with work due to start on 1 April this year. The framework covers Highways England's Areas 13 (Cumbria & parts of Lancashire) and 14 (Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Durham & North Yorks).
Works covered under the framework include renewals on roads and bridges, and improvement schemes on the Highways England road network.
David Poole, executive director for commercial and procurement at Highways England, said: 'These contracts demonstrate our commitment to increasing capability and understanding within Highways England and bringing Highways England closer to our customers.
'Collaboration with our supply chain is key to our new way of working and we are looking forward to establishing a successful, long-term relationship with the appointed contractors.'
The new framework contractors will work alongside the maintenance and response and design services contractors in the area announced last December.
If the Lot has an A by it, it refers to Area 13, if B it is Area 14 and if it does not have A or B or covers both.
